GOJHL return to Cambridge interrupted by foggy conditions

The Cambridge RedHawks' much anticipated debut in the GOJHL got a little foggy.

Play was suspended with 9:39 left in the third period of their opening game at Galt Arena Gardens Saturday because of fog on the ice.

At the time, the RedHawks were up on the Brampton Bombers 4-2.

The team will make an announcement regarding the status of the game at a later date.

It was part of an exciting first week in the GOJHL's eight-team Midwestern Conference.

The Hawks fell in a close one 5-3 to the Kitchener Dutchmen at The Aud.

Austin Forsyth scored twice for Cambridge, with Payton McLeish had a goal of his own.

For Kitchener, they were led by a pair of three point performances from Sean Kawalec and Jeff Schrattner. Both had a goal and two helpers, while Tyler Harrison and Kole Scott both had a goal and an assist. Alex Peterson also scored for the Dutchmen.

Christian Linton made 21 saves in the win, while Tanner Wickware stopped 23 shots in the loss.

Meantime, Lucas Patton opened the year with a 21 save shutout to lead the Dutchmen to a 4-0 win over the Elmira Sugar Kings Saturday.

Kyle Kennery scored twice and added an assist. Cam Allan and Sean Kawalec also scored in the win.

The Sugar Kings redeemed themselves Sunday with a 5-2 win over the Brantford 99ers.

Jeremey Goodwin scored twice in the win, while Tyson Hillier, Hunter Dubecki and Isaac Taylor added singles. Brody Waters had three assists.

Rhett Kimmel made 20 saves for Elmira, who out shot the opposition 53-22.

The Waterloo Siskins opened the year with a pair of wins, including a 5-4 season-opening overtime win over the defending Sutherland Cup Champion Listowel Cyclones Friday night.

Tyler Dam scored the OT winner, while Machus Turner got the victory in net, making 22 saves.

Sam Cherry, Benton Hayes, Christian Taylor and Dominick DiPonio also scored for the Siskins.

On Sunday, they followed up with a 4-2 win over the Stratford Warriors.

Cherry nabbed his second of the year, while Matthew Prucha, Alex Cimino and Drayton Duckett added their first.

Matt Onuska turned aside 27 shots in the win.
