A memorial service will be held on Sunday to honour the lives of both Constable David Nicholson and Mark Gage.
Constable Nicholson died in the line of duty while attempting to rescue Mark Gage from the Parkhill Dam on August 12, 1998.
Waterloo Regional Police Chief Bryan Larkin said they continue to remember them both with every year that passes. “we made a promise to the Nicholson family, we made a promise to the Gage family that we would never forget.”
Larkin said he remembers Nicholson fondly, “David emulated all of the values of the Waterloo Regional Police Service, he was an incredible human being, he was an incredible husband, an incredible father, and and a wonderful public servant.”
He said “we want to remember our heroes in life, not death, and that's what we are doing on Sunday.”
Along with the memorial service, members of the Regional Police are wearing a pin with Nicholson's regimental number as a symbol of remembrance and celebration.
The service will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Mill Race Park in Cambridge.
