Ingersoll Times and Norwich Gazette among publications affected by Postmedia cuts

Postmedia announced Tuesday that they will be shutting down some of their community publications in the coming weeks.
This includes the Ingersoll Times and Norwich Gazette.
In a release, the company says this is in an effort to grow new revenues and cut salary expenses by 10% by the end of August.
They add, “If we intend to survive and create a new model for the new reality then we must continue to take the necessary steps to focus on areas where we can win.”
Some of the other publications affected include, the Graphic in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, Kirkland Lake Northern News, the Camrose Canadian, the Strathmore Standard, the Kapuskasing Northern Times and Petrolia Topic.
The cuts also affect the Pembroke Daily Observer, a 163-year-old publication in the small city about 150 kilometres northwest of Ottawa.
Last November, Torstar Corp. and Postmedia announced they had exchanged a total of 41 publications, mostly in Ontario, and would stop publishing most of them, resulting in 291 job losses.
Unifor president Paul Morse says Canadian newspapers are in rough shape because of declining print advertising while foreign-owned tech companies Google and Facebook are benefiting from Canadian digital advertising.
