Waterloo Regional Police are running their Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Blitz Monday and Tuesday.

Sergeant Steve Sadler is the Commercial Motor Vehicle Coordinator and says the three main violations they see are issues with tires, brakes and load security.

He says these campaigns are all about road safety.

“It's to ensure that companies and truck drivers are doing what they're supposed to do as far as their due diligence and their daily inspections, doing their walk around and for the companies, making sure that they are keeping up on the maintenance of these trucks.”

Sadler says their goal is to inspect around 250 vehicles.

“There is obviously a huge number of commercial motor vehicles on the roadway and Waterloo Region is a huge hub for truck transportation.”

In fact, Sadler says up to 45% of the vehicles on our roads are commercial vehicles.
