Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau has been cleared of allegations that he and his father benefited from insider information of a tax hike on the rich.
Opposition members asked ethics commissioner Mary Dawson to look into the sale of millions of dollars worth of company shares in Morneau Shepell in late 2015 that came before Morneau’s tax announcement.
In a letter to Morneau, Dawson notes the tax increase was first announced publicly as early as November 2015.
Morneau had made a similar observation as he defended himself in the House of Commons.
