Police dismantle alleged clandestine drug lab in Kitchener

Regional Police continue to investigate after an alleged clandestine drug lab was discovered on Strange Street in Kitchener.
Police confirm to 570 NEWS that officers from their Drug and Firearms Unit executed a search warrant at a residence on Sunday.
Investigators needed to be dressed in hazmat suits for their own safety, but say there was no risk to the public.
Clandestine labs are often used to manufacture synthetic drugs, like fentanyl and methamphetamine. WRPS Chief Bryan Larkin says officers worked throughout the weekend to dismantle it.
Police say they received reports of an injured male at a Strange Street residence on Saturday night. A 24-year-old man has since been treated in hospital, but there is no word on his injuries or whether he’s been charged.
Strange Street remains closed between Herlan Avenue and Cherry Street for a police investigation, and is expected to remain shut down for most of Monday.
