Ontario Fire Marshal investigating blaze at Waterloo home, $500K in damage

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate an early morning house fire in Waterloo.

Officials tell 570 NEWS that crews were called to 87 Bridge Street West around 5 a.m. Sunday, after a passerby spotted the blaze.

When crews arrived, flames were shooting right through the roof, but the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

The homeowner wasn’t there at the time, and there were no injuries.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and damage is pegged at around $500,000.

Officials say the home had to be demolished, in order to complete the investigation. Bridge Street was closed until early Sunday evening as a result.
