The province has announced a coroner’s inquest to examine the events surrounding the death of an inmate at the women’s prison in Kitchener.
Terry Baker died last July at St. Mary’s hospital, after she was found unresponsive in her cell at the Grand Valley Institution for Women.
The 30-year-old was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder.
Inquests are mandatory whenever a prisoner dies in an Ontario jail.
The goal of such inquests is not to assign blame, but rather make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths in the future.
No date or location for the proceeding has been announced.
