Manulife looking to add building in downtown Kitchener

More change to downtown Kitchener’s ever-evolving landscape could be in the offing.

Manulife Financial is reportedly considering a mixed-use redevelopment project on a parking lot it owns across from its Kitchener offices.

The parking lot in question is bordered by Charles, Francis, Joseph and Water streets.

Today’s Record reports, Manulife has started the ball rolling by hiring Intermarket Real Estate Group to file a site plan application with the city.

The paper reports this is just the first phase in a lengthy process to determine whether the project is feasible for the company and whether it would be acceptable to the city.

The initial plan would see a 25 storey structure rise up in part of the parking lot and have a retail component, including a possible grocery store, and condo units above.

About 40 per cent of the parking lot would be affected.
