Detroit-Windsor tunnel closure starts tonight

People trying to cross the border at Windsor may need a little extra time starting later today.

The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is being closed for nine days starting at 8 p.m. tonight for renovations.

Authorities say the ceiling slab in the river section of the tunnel is 85-years-old and needs to be replaced because it’s showing signs of wear and tear due to moisture, road salt, exhaust, and the impact from trucks.

The complete closure is scheduled to last until October 30th, but it’ll be followed by nightly closures from Sunday to Thursday through most of the rest of the year.
