Local utilities warn customers in Waterloo Region about a text scam

Local hydro utilities want you to beware of a new scam going around.

Energy-Plus, Kitchener-Wilmot Hydro, and Waterloo North Hydro, have issued a joint statement about a fake text message that’s been reported by their customers.

Whoever is sending the text claims to represent various power companies.

The text says the customer never received a refund they’re owed, and if they click on a link, they get the money via an e-Transfer.

But the trio of local utilities say the never send any information about customer accounts in a text.

And they say if you get this text DO NOT click on the link.

But do contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, at 1 (888) 495-8501 or click here to visit.
