Provincial Police are urging us to pay close attention and use caution when it comes to our money, as a number of counterfeit bills have been discovered.
They say counterfeit Canadian 50s, 100s, and numerous American bills have been found across Perth County, and continue to circulate.
The USA bills contained words written in other languages — and some were actually souvenirs, that just looked like money.
They’re reminding us that legal Canadian bills are made of polymer, and contain several security features to ensure their legitimacy; the texture is smooth and areas will contain raised ink, the transparent sections should be seen on both sides of the bill, details will be present in the metallic images. Flipping the bill over, the metallic images should be repeated in the same colours and details.
Police are also reminding retailers that they have the right to refuse to accept large denomination bills if they’re unsure of their legitimacy, and to contact them immediately if they receive any counterfeit currency.
Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to contact 1-888-310-1122, (519) 393-6123, or Crime Stoppers.
