Auburn Developments purchases Schneider’s property in Kitchener

The former Schneider’s property in Kitchener has been sold.

Kitchener Ward 9 Councillor Frank Etherington tells 570 NEWS the property has been purchased by London-based Auburn Developments.

Auburn has been behind such local projects as The Barrel Yards and the Arrow Lofts in Kitchener.

“I have the utmost confidence they’re (Auburn) going to do something really meaningful, on that very large site. That’s a 27.6 acre site.” said Etherington.

He adds when developed, the site will become Kitchener’s largest housing development: “…A village within the ward, a new village of housing, commercial and office buildings, retail,”

Etherington is also hoping affordable housing will become part of the plan.

“I think to see it come back to life, over the next number of years, with likely what will be a mixed use development scenario, is very exciting,” added Kitchener Mayor Berry Vrbanovic.

The Schneider’s plant closed in September 2014, the property was put up for sale a few months later.
