A Canadian Armed Forces veteran injured in Afghanistan is representing our region in the upcoming Invictus Games.
The games started in 2014 for injured and wounded soldiers and Will Werth from Plattsville is proud to be representing Canada in the golf portion of the games.
Werth suffered multiple injuries including facial disfigurement, brain damage and blindness in one eye, from an improvised explosive device back in 2010.
He says his injuries don’t define who you are in your abilities and where you can go in life. “It’s kind of just like you got to start fresh and it’s day one again and you got to get back out there and start forging your new path.”
Werth says it’s a huge honour obviously to compete for Team Canada at any level. “To be able to put that Maple Leaf on and the uniform is a huge privilege, and a huge honour for me. For myself, I’m using the games as to be inspired by my teammates.”
Werth begins his games at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26th at St. George’s Golf and Country Club.
The multi-sport event was created by Prince Harry.
