Trudeau to meet with caucus in BC ahead of fall parliamentary session

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his caucus will get down to work today — meeting in British Columbia ahead of a fall parliamentary session that promises to be full of heated issues.

The caucus retreat in Kelowna comes as Liberal M-Ps brace to take on a number of issues, including a controversial proposal to eliminate tax loopholes and the continuing flood of refugee claimants at unofficial border crossings.

But several cabinet ministers have already gotten down to business.

Yesterday, Finance Minister Bill Morneau was in Vancouver to talk about tax reforms, while Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay announced financial relief for ranchers impacted by B-C’s record-breaking wildfire season.

The prime minister, meanwhile, was in Kelowna where he met with firefighters, spoke with local media and capped the day with a hike up a mountain.

Trudeau is scheduled to attend caucus meetings today, then host a town hall at the University of B-C’s Okanagan campus this evening.
