Waterloo Fire and Rescue (WFR) is teaming up with Wilfrid Laurier University for back to school.
It’s the second year in a row that a live room burn demonstration will take place on campus, to teach first year students about fire safety and emergency tips.
Public Education Officer, John Percy, says two demonstrations will take place, the first, building up a single dorm room and then lighting it on fire. “The key message is to show students how quickly the fire spreads and how little time that they have to follow the emergency procedures and get out safely.”
Percy says the other demonstration will take place in a cooking trailer simulator. “The leading cause of fires in the city and the province are unattended pots on the stove.”
He says WFR wants to show first year students the proper and improper way of putting out that type of fire.
The demonstrations will take place on the Northdale campus tonight at 5 p.m.
