Warriors claim first home win since 2012

Another big win for the football program at the University of Waterloo.

The Warriors cruised to a 52-8 victory over the York Lions on Monday afternoon at Warrior Field. It was also U-W’s first home win since 2012.

Rookie quarterback Tre Ford rushed for over 150 yards and two touchdowns, while adding another 50 yards and a touchdown in the air.

“That’s what I expected when I came in,” said Ford. “I wanted to turn the program around. Everybody is getting their job done, and I’m just trying to get mine done too.”

Warriors Head Coach Chris Bertoia was really proud of how his defence played – “How we stopped the run was fantastic. I’m really proud of our defensive effort.”

Waterloo can go 3 and 0 for the first time since 2007 when they host the University of Toronto on Saturday afternoon.

Laurier will host Carleton. The Golden Hawks had a bye week and did not play over the Labour Day weekend.
