Trudeau visits Stratford Festival, speaks with indigenous youths

Our Prime Minister got in touch with his artistic side on Friday, as he visited the 65th annual Stratford Festival.
Justin Trudeau visited Stratford to check out the Festival, meet some actors, and take a tour of their facilities.
Antoni Cimolino is the Artistic Director of the Festival and says it was a very exciting day for their staff.
“It’s kind of magic — people were so excited to see him, and there was a sense of electricity through the crowd. It’s great that he’s comfortable taking selfies with people, because there was no shortage of that.”
Cimolino says Trudeau spent the majority of his time speaking with a group that brings art to at-risk youths, including those in indigenous communities.
“There was a beautiful moment with a young girl who is very very shy, she doesn’t speak very much, but she started playing piano for Trudeau — because that’s her way of expressing herself. And so the Festival really is the center spoke of so many activities which are central to a better society. We need to nourish and understand that.”
Cimolino adds that people from all over the world come to Stratford to check out the Festival.
“The Festival is truly remarkable because of our diverse audience. We get as many people coming here from California, about 6 per cent of our audience, as we get from Ohio. People who love this type of work are willing to travel a long way — people every year come from Japan, the Philippines, and countries in Europe. So it’s just fantastic that this place exists.”
Before heading to Stratford, Trudeau spent the morning in Goderich where he met with volunteers of the Salvation Army Backpack Drive.
