Sunshine-filled weekend ahead for Waterloo Region

If you’ve gotten tired of the clouds and rain we’ve seemed to have almost every day this summer, Environment Canada has great news.

Toss aside the umbrella and grab your sunscreen, because this weekend is set to be “beautiful.”

With three solid days of sunshine ahead, from Saturday through to Monday, the coolest day of the weekend will be Saturday at 25 degrees.

“We’ve had five warm days in Kitchener-Waterloo above 30 degrees, this time last year, we had 17 of those guys,” says David Phillips with Environment Canada.

Monday is set to be around 30 degrees, but even that is a little low for what we should be seeing.

“Even the warmest day this year got up to maybe 31 degrees, but we had a temperature of 35 degrees by this time last year, so we’ve all seen much more wet conditions, I mean the grass has never been greener, but you know, we want some of that muscle shirt and tank top weather and it’s just been not around,” explains Phillips.

He adds that this weekend shouldn’t see any rain, and very little heavy cloud cover, and should essentially be “weather-less.”

“Just to show you that don’t think you’ve had it worse than other places. Ottawa has had over 700 millimetres of rain since April 1, Kitchener’s had 414 millimetres. I mean come on, it’s like monsoon weather in Ottawa, but not in Kitchener-Waterloo.”

Phillips had to throw in his recommendation for the weekend, suggesting everyone get out and enjoy the cottage, the beach or at least the patio.
