No evidence of a tornado touching down in Drumbo, Wed. night

Environment Canada has found no evidence of a tornado having touched down in Drumbo during severe thunderstorms this week.

Warning Preparedness Meteorologist, Geoff Coulson, tells 570 NEWS, even though there were plenty of images on social media from the Wednesday night storms suggesting there might have been a twister, investigators found no damage on the ground.

And Coulson says ground damage is “the key ingredient” to take a funnel cloud sighting and declare it as a tornado.

Drumbo is near the southwest corner of Waterloo Region — in nearby Lucan, west of Stratford that same night, an E-F Scale-Zero tornado did touch down.

Coulson says the weather agency is still willing to hear from anyone in the Dumbo area who finds tornado damage on the ground.

They can report such findings via email, to storm.ontario@ec.gc.ca.
