The Ontario SPCA is investigating after a disturbing case of ‘pet murder’ in the City of Cambridge.
Bonnie Deekon with the Cambridge and District Humane Society says it all started after they received reports that a cat had gone missing on Tuesday.
“The next day on June 28th, a member of the public called Regional Police and reported what they found in Devil’s Creek. The body of the cat had been found tied up, and was weighted down in the water, but the body had floated to the top.”
Deekon says the owners of the cat– named Bo — are offering a reward for any information that leads to the arrest, or charges being laid, as a result of this investigation.
“And technically that’s all we have, is information from the public, but that’s what is bothering us the most. I mean, someone must know something about what happened to this cat.. but we just haven’t figured out why they did this yet.”
Deekon adds that whoever was involved in this gruesome incident may have received injuries.
“According to the inspector with the Humane Society and OSPCA, this cat was considered sort of a ‘one-family’ cat.. as he didn’t really like other people to come near him. So we suspect, that whoever did this to this cat, probably has a few scratches on them.”
Deekon says this type of incident is very disturbing, and she just doesn’t understand who could commit an act like this.
“If this person will do this to an animal… what will they do to humans? And if this was just done out of bullying.. that is also very wrong and we do not like it at all.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the OSPCA.
