Many students and teachers celebrate the last day of school

For many students its the best day of the year, the last day of school before summer vacation. The day has finally come after 10 long months of tests, homework, and exams.

For teachers, its a special day as well.

Charity Frye is the special education resource teacher at Vista Hills Public School. She says the end of the school year is a great time to measure the success and shortcomings of the last 10 months and says this year things went pretty well.

“I think success is different for every student and staff member here. I think we work really hard to make sure that each student has achievable goals. So success is different from one student to another. Today I see many smiling faces in the halls and hear a lot of happiness so to me as our first year in this building, I think that is a huge sign that we have been successful.”

But for teachers, the work doesn’t end when the bell ring. So how do teachers spend the next two months? Frye herself will be taking a workshop to learn more about how technology can be utilized in the classroom.

“This summer I will be going to the CATC computer camp to develop my technology skills to come back to the students and be a better me. Its a great way to get my brain spinning around coming back in August.”

Frye isn’t the only teacher with homework over the summer. She says nearly every teacher does some kind of professional development to bring back to the classroom in September.
