A word of caution from the Grand River Conservation Authority as we head into the Canada Day long weekend.
The authority is reminding us that our waterways and trails are still recovering after last week’s mass flooding, and say we need to exercise some extra caution while we’re out by the watershed this weekend.
Inexperienced river users are the most-at risk, as a number of buoys and booms have been displaced due to high river flows. This will make it more difficult to determine where hazards like dams and obstructions are.
The flooding and rainfall also resulted in a large amount of debris being scattered throughout the watershed, which also poses an additional risk.
They’re reminding us to use extra caution, and to report any warning buoys and booms that may have washed up onto our properties.
Many trails also remain closed as they’ve been heavily damaged, and tubing remains suspended at the Elora Gorge until further notice.
