Manulife LPGA Classic week is here.
Round 1 of the tournament begins Thursday morning at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge.
It’s another strong field for 2017, which includes 2016 champion Caroline Masson, 2015 champ Suzann Pettersen and 2012 champ Brittany Lang.
Canadian and fan favourite Brooke Henderson is also back. She made her debut at the tournament as a 15-year-old.
Masson says you need to be a good ball striker to win at Whistle Bear: “Giving yourself a lot of birdie chances is important.” said Masson.
She says this place will always be special, seeing how this is where she got her first win on the LPGA.
In the past, players have raved about the condition of the golf course and the Tournament Director of the Manulife LPGA Classic says Whistle Bear is in amazing shape again.
“Just even in the last week how it has transformed, is incredible.” said John Gaskin.
Meantime, Red Day returns for Round 2 on Friday. Fans are asked to wear red to help raise awareness for women’s health issues. Close to 100 workplaces across the region will also be taking part.
To date, the tournament has raised $1.6-million for the St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation. That has allowed the hospital to complete its rhythm centre.
570’s Mike Farwell Show will broadcast live from the course on Thursday and Friday. 570’s Blair Adams will also be talking to the players during all four rounds.
This is Manulife’s last year as title sponsor. The tournament has not announced yet if a new sponsor has been found.
