The Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre is promoting women in aviation through the 6th annual ‘Girls Can Fly‘ event.
Local girls between 8 and 18 have the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art facility, meet women in the industry, and even go for a free flight.
Caroline Rose with the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre says this is a good time for women to consider a job in aviation, as our country currently has a shortage of pilots.
“At the moment, Canadian flight schools produce about 600 pilots, and these airlines are looking to hire about 1000. There’s about a 400 per cent gap, and it’s still very much a male dominated industry. So we want to promote this to girls and young women as an option for a career.”
Rose adds that there are more career options for these young ladies to consider, as Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are also seeing a shortage in recruits.
‘Girls Can Fly’ is taking place Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Flight Centre on Fountain Street in Breslau.
