The local French Catholic school board is changing its name to reflect the promise an ambitious future for each of its 16,000 students.
After 20 years as Conseil Scolaire de District Catholique Centre-Sud, the board is becoming Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir– meaning ‘my future.’
Student council trustee Denisa Logojan says it better represents who they are as a school board and what they’re trying to accomplish.
“I think as we’re looking into the future, we’re looking to be innovative, and be present for our students and engage in their future,” says Logojan, “and I think this name really represents that.”
Logojan says the name change was needed as the board continues to evolve, adding its seen a 45 per cent increase in its student population since its creation in 1998. “We thought it was important to change the name to really represent our new identity,” she says, “because we have changed from 20 years ago.”
The new name isn’t the only change either. Logojan says the board will be adding more technology to the classroom. Principal Joanne LeBlanc-Holden adds the board will ensure its schools have the programs and tools needed to enhance teaching and learning.
“We’ll have everything in place to make sure the students will reach their full potential and have the avenir — the future — they are hoping to get,” says LeBlanc-Holden.
