Many Canadians are headed to their favourite comic book shop on Saturday for ‘Free Comic Book Day‘.

The 16th annual promotional event encourages people to visit a local store and check out 50 free comic titles.

Jennifer Haines owns The Dragon in Guelph and says the event helps get everyone interested in comics.

“Publishers got together for the annual initiative and created special editions of books. Some of these books are reprints, and some of them are brand new comics that you won’t be able to get anywhere else. Us retailers are able to purchase them for a small amount and then we give them away on Free Comic Book Day!”

Locally, The Dragon in Guelph, Lookin’ for Heroes in Kitchener, Carry-On Comics in Waterloo, and Retro Rocket Comics in Cambridge are participating in this year’s Free Comic Book Day.
