It was a strange, but very Canadian sight for motorists in Kitchener on Wednesday morning as a beaver made its way onto the Expressway.
The northbound lanes of Highway 7 were shut down approaching Ottawa Street after the critter trekked onto the road.
OPP and the SPCA arrived, and after a small struggle, were able to humanely wrangle the animal to safety.
The highway reopened around 9 a.m. and officials say they’re still unsure how the beaver ended up on the highway.
