WRPS out with warning about email scam

Regional Police are out with a warning about a scam that involves emails from their service.
They have received hundreds of calls from the public about an email they received from the Waterloo Regional Police Service asking for personal credit card information.
Cherri Greeno with Regional Police says that something like this isn’t uncommon, but it is concerning.
“It happens from time to time but something like this with an officer’s name on it and badge number appears to be legit. So this is quite concerning for us and we don’t want people falling for it.”
Regional police have received hundreds of calls so far this morning from people within our region and also in the Ottawa area.
