A roundtable discussion in Kitchener on Tuesday focuses on one, and one thing only– pot.
Liberal MP and former Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair is in town as part of a cross-country tour to talk more about the government’s plan to legalize and regulate cannabis.
“I’ve been going around speaking with different officials in order to canvas their perspective on the marijuana issue, and focus on strategies so that we can keep pot away from children and young people once the drug is legalized in the Spring,” said Blair.
Blair is sitting down with various stakeholders, and says one of the main concerns is how legalization will affect children and young people.
“Canada has the highest level of cannabis-use of any country in the world among young people. And quite frankly, we need to do a better job in restricting kids access to the drug and providing education so that they make better choices.”
Blair is heading the tour with Attorney General of Canada Jody Wilson-Raybould to gather community input as the government moves forward with it’s marijuana legislation.
The federal government is expected to introduce legislation for cannabis this spring.
