Two Kitchener restaurants being torn down to make way for ION LRT terminal

The Region of Waterloo has decided where the new ION LRT terminal will be built at Fairview Park Mall.
Expropriation of the property at Fairway and Wilson was given the green light by council Wednesday night, so say goodbye to the Burger King and Crabby Joe’s in the Spring of 2017; both restaurants will have to be demolished.
Owner of the Crabby Joe’s, Menosh Hakim, says the news caught him by surprise.
“I was not mentally prepared to leave the place. We were planning to re-model the whole thing. We were talking about re-modelling a month before we heard this. We had plans with head office and all that,” said Hakim.
Hakim had employees quit on him after the expropriation was made public, and he’s had to re-hire nearly all of his kitchen and bar staff.
As for the future of his restaurant, Hakim says he hopes to re-open it, preferably in the same area as business has been booming over the past few months.
