Cambridge bans pet sales in stores

Cambridge City Council has passed a bylaw that bans the sale of commercially bred cats, dogs and rabbits.
Councillor Mike Mann tells The Record the intent of the bylaw is – “to protect the animals and protect the public.”
The bylaw comes three years after local pet advocates asked council to consider a ban.
Under the new regulations, the city will require pet shops to only sell animals from licensed local kennels and breeders, rescues and shelters.
Waterloo has also banned the sale of for-profit animals.
