Some LRT stops need to be redone

A hiccup for K-W’s new Light Rail Transit project.
Officials have been forced to tear up the concrete at several stops after it was determined the distance between the track and the platform was off slightly – in most cases, by mere millimetres.
It needs to be close enough so passengers can get on and off the train safely, but far enough away to ensure the train never strikes the platform.
GrandLinq, which is behind the project, will cover the costs for the additional work.
Spokesperson Avril Fiskin tells the Record, “When you put together a bid you do have money available to manage deficiencies.”
Another spokesperson, Lauren McGirr, tells the paper, “We’re working on our stops all across the job and we’ve actually installed our anchor wall and canopy structure at a number of stops.”
The work is not expected to affect the overall schedule for completion.
