500 volunteers and 40 committees make sure the beer keeps on flowing and the polka music never stops.
Since the festival’s inception 48 years ago, volunteers have been lining up at the door to lend a helping hand to KW Oktoberfest.
The volunteers set up for events and make sure everything is running smoothly.
I took a trip to Oktoberfest HQ aka The Hans Hut to talk to KW Oktoberfest Executive Director Dave MacNeil. With a smile on his face, he tells me he couldn’t be prouder of his staff and volunteers. “Other communities are searching for volunteers…with us…we actually have to send people away. I can’t say enough about the people who make this festival happen.”
Personally, I think dedication is a bit of an understatement. MacNeil says many of the volunteers take their vacation time from work during Oktoberfest. Imagine that! Passing up a couple weeks at a cottage during the summer or playing around in the snow during Christmas. Wow!
Bottom line, the volunteers and staff that put on the show year-round deserve a big hug and a high five because they’re truly WUNDERBAR!
