Waterloo Regional Police have confirmed that human remains have been found at the former property of Glenn Bauman and Linda Daniel in Wellesley Township.
Daniel and her daughter Cheyenne were last seen in 2011. They were 47-years-old and 13-years-old respectively at the time of their disappearance.
Investigators have been at 3670 Hessen Strasse Road searching for evidence for over two weeks.
“The search warrant was for both inside and outside the residence, so definitely on the property of the Hessen Strasse residence,” said Inspector Michael Haffner with Waterloo Regional Police. “There were human remains recovered not only on the exterior of the property, but also inside as well.”
In partnership with the Centre of Forensic Sciences and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, the search of the property has now wrapped up.
Haffner says police cannot yet confirm if more than one body was discovered.
“They did find human remains on the property, but it’s going to take several months in order to properly analyze and examine what they’ve recovered to properly identify who the remains belong to.” said Haffner.
Bauman has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and two counts of indignity to a body.
Police will continue to guard the property for the remainder of the week. The search warrant which provides police access to the property expires on September 23, 2016.
Haffner says it’s not yet clear when the family who now lives on the property can return, “that relationship with them has to be continued through communication to get them back into their residence in the same condition it was left.”
“As far as financial responsibility, that all comes back to the police service,” says Haffner.
Police will continue to try and determine the identity of the remains, which they say may take several months.
