Woolwich man charged in Tragically Hip ticket fraud scheme

A Woolwich man is facing a fraud charge for reportedly advertising Tragically Hip tickets online and not delivering the product.

Police say a Kingston man responded to a Kijiji ad for four tickets at the end of June and sent $1,200 to the supposed seller, who was to send online e-tickets, but the complainant says no tickets were received.

Kingston police say investigators identified a suspect from information supplied by the complainant and an arrest warrant was issued.

On Sept. 9, a 31-year-old man, already before the courts on earlier charges of fraud and uttering a forged document, visited Waterloo Regional Police as per conditions on his recognizance.

He was recognized as the person wanted in Kingston.

Officers picked up the man in Kitchener that night and returned him to Kingston where he has been charged with fraud under $5,000.

The Tragically Hip played their final concert in Kingston last month to mark the end of their 15-city “Man Machine Poem” tour.
