Waterloo Region’s home sales, average prices continue to soar in August

Waterloo Region’s real estate industry says August was a hot month for home sales as compared to last year, even as home prices continue to rise.
The Kitchener Waterloo Association of Realtors says it set a new August record for home sales and reported a total of 598 homes sold last month — a 26.4 per cent increase compared to August 2015. They say last month was ranked as the most active August on record, and was 37.6 per cent above the 5-year average for the month.
Single-detached style homes sold for an average price of just under $488,000– an increase of 20.9 per cent compared to last year.
Apartment-style condominiums sold for an average price of $233,302– an increase of 7.9 per cent compared to last year.
Townhomes and semis sold for an average of $298,148 (up 10.2 per cent) and $299,353 (up 5.5 per cent).
