Italy’s Giulia Molinaro had an interesting path to the LPGA. She was born in Italy, but raised in Kenya.
“My dad just thought it would be a good idea for me to play golf, as to gain the social aspect of the game,” said Molinaro following her final round at the Manulife LPGA Classic on Sunday.
“I enjoyed getting better at a pretty fast rate…I enjoyed the travel and getting on the national team (Italy).”
Scottsdale, Arizona is now home base for the 26-year-old. She attended Arizona State University.
Molinaro was one of 29 Olympians in the field this week at Whistle Bear.
She tells 570 News it was a dream come true, qualifying for Rio.
Outside of her competition, Molinaro was able to watch some other events including swimming, where she witnessed American Phelps win his 22nd Olympic gold medal.
“You realize we are very lucky (LPGA members). That every week that we have a new chance to play…some of them do have a tour or circuit they follow, but we are just so lucky that we have majors, we have big events for us, we have things that are not every four years. For them, they have to fight and get ready for potentially only 50 seconds, so it’s very humbling and makes you understand how hard people work for just the love of sport.”
Molinaro finished 2-under at the Manulife Classic and says she’ll be back next year.
