Police investigating major crash in Waterloo

Lexington Rd is closed at University Ave E in Waterloo as regional police investigate a major crash.

Sergeant John Nymann with the Waterloo Regional Police Traffic Branch says it happened just after 4:30 a.m.

“Due to what we believe is a high rate of speed, it [the vehicle] failed to navigate a corner, exited the road way and struck three hydro poles, sheering the first two completely off.”

“The car recieved extensive damage,” says Nymann. “However, the lone occupant of the motor vehicle was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.”

The man, who lives in Waterloo Region, has since been released from the hospital, but police say charges are pending.

You’ll want to plan an alternate route today, as investigators expect to be on scene for the next 12-18 hours.

Some homes in that area are without power this morning while crews work on the hydro poles.
