Waterloo region received a lot of heavy rainfall over the last few days, with a special weather statement ending this afternoon.
You may have been prepared for the rain, but chances are, if the roof of your home is old, it wasn’t as ready for the hit.
Heavy rainfalls can do a huge amount of damage to your roof in a short amount of time.
Owner of Reuter Roofing, Cory Reuter, says he’s already received over 15 repair calls today, when he would typically get one or two.
Reuter says he has some advice for the first steps you should take if you spot a leak.
“You want to get someone out to have a look right away, just to diagnose it,” says Reuter. “Sometimes it can be as easy as caulking something down, or the extreme is getting a tarp onto the whole section that needs to be addressed.”
He recommends taking a look at your walls, chimney and attic after any major storm.
“Given the slope of your roof if you’re able to go up on it or just go up on a ladder, and see if you can see any signs of curling, excess granules in your eavestroughs, and any blown up or flapping shingles, that’s usually the first sign of a problem.”
