Police are asking everyone to take extra precautions when meeting someone online, after a Guelph man was setup and robbed.
The man met a woman he’d been chatting to online at her apartment, shortly after a man with a baton joined them, and demanded that the Guelph man leave.
“The victim fled the apartment, leaving behind $120 cash. He then called us,” says Constable Mike Gatto.
Police were able to find the man and woman responsible, they both had a small quantity of drugs on them including meth and magic mushrooms.
30-year-old Darcy Mcgee and a 35-year-old Noelle Martin from Guelph face multiple charges.
Gatto says there are some things we can do to protect ourselves is we decide to meet someone we’ve been chatting with online.
“It’s always safest to make sure that if you’re going to meet, you meet in a public place. You meet with friends. Don’t put yourself in a position of vulnerability when you don’t know someone.”
