We are in to the last month of summer break and many parents have back to school shopping on the brain!
However, some families will need a little help getting backpacks full of school supplies ready for September.
The Cambridge Self Help Food Bank is once again stepping in to help over 1,000 children in our community get ready for school.
Executive Director Pat Singleton tells 570 News there are many circumstances that could lead to a family needing some help.
“Families that have fallen upon hard times whether they have lost jobs, had fires, just a number of different things that have an impact on people’s lives changing.”
She says this is also a great way to get kids excited about helping others.
“Some families will take their kids out to get their own school supplies and say ‘let’s choose an age and pick according to Grade 5 or 6’ so some people do it that way and it helps kids to bring the back packs in and it’s just really awesome to see families come in like that.”
All school supplies are needed including backpacks, pens, lined and blank paper, math sets, and scientific calculators.
Donations can be dropped off at the Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank at 54 Ainslie Street South, Cambridge, Staples 26 Pinebush Rd., Cambridge and Cambridge Surplus, on Eagle Street, Cambridge
