Kitchener’s Tyler Varga discusses decision to retire from NFL

Kitchener’s Tyler Varga says it was a “tough decision” to retire from the National Football League.

The 22-year-old former Cameron Heights Collegiate student, made that call earlier this week. He played three games with the Indianapolis Colts in 2015, before suffering a concussion.

“Basically been a lot of reflecting over the past…since I had the concussion really, last September,” Varga told 570 News in his first interview with Canadian media.

LISTEN: Varga says the decision to retire was one he just made recently.

Varga says there’s more information out there regarding head injuries.

“You know obviously, if you are completely naive to the dangers of the game, then how are you supposed to make an educated decision that’s right for you?…Having a better understanding of those risks gives you the ability to weigh the risks against the reward essentially, in a better way.”

Varga tells 570 News he’s now looking at getting involved in the financial world, specifically dealing with private equities or banking.

He also holds a pre-med degree from Yale.
