Uptown Waterloo will once again be filled with the sounds of smooth jazz as the 24th Sunlife Financial Uptown Waterloo Jazz Festival gets underway Friday.
More than 35 thousand people are expected to attend the three day festival this year.
Executive Director with Uptown Waterloo BIA Patti Brooks says they have had to make some changes this year because of LRT construction along King Street.
“We are not using Waterloo Public Square as our satellite stage but we are still holding the festival at the main stage in the Waterloo City Centre parking lot. Everything is going ahead as usual and the challenging construction is not going to stop the festival in any way.”
Brooks says they try to focus on a wide rage of jazz music which helps draw the large crowds.
“We are very conscious to provide jazz music to all demographics of people and provide jazz music of all genres. There is something for everyone at our festival.”
Brooks adds there will be plenty of free parking available throughout the weekend.
“Uptown Waterloo Businesses have opened the Uptown Parkade and it’s free all weekend starting Friday at 5 p.m. There is also a lot of parking off of Regina Street and on the north and south lots that flank the shops. Just get parked and Uptown Waterloo is completely walkable. You will be able to hear us any where you are.”
