National Terry Fox exhibition sets up in Kitchener

Just as Terry Fox ran more than halfway across the country during his Marathon of Hope, the exhibition ‘Terry Fox Running to the Heart of Canada’ has set-off on its own cross-Canada tour.

The exhibition will be hitting up cities like Victoria and Winnipeg, but will kick-off right here in Kitchener at TheMuseum starting on April 8th.

Jean-Marc Blais with the Canadian Museum of History tells 570 news that this is the first exhibition ever produced on Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope.

“The Marathon of Hope took place in 1980 so 2015 had been 35 years since it took place, so we thought it was an important time to actually reflect on this important moment in Canadian history and also talk about the hero that is Terry Fox”

Blais added that the exhibition includes artifacts that have never been seen before.

“We actually have the water jug that he filled on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean when he started his marathon, with the intentions to empty it into the Pacific. And since that did not take place, we now have this water jug in the exhibition that is half-full of original water.”

Blais added that exhibition is a reminder of why Terry Fox is important to us today.

“We don’t have a lot of common heroes in Canada, and Terry Fox is certainly one of them. The exhibition hopes to just remind people of that.”

Terry Fox ‘Running to the Heart of Canada’ will run at THEMUSEUM in downtown Kitchener from April 8 to June 16, 2016.
