C. difficile has been declared at St. Mary’s General Hospital
The outbreak today was said to be on the 7th floor Inpatient Medicine Unit.
There are two patients in isolation on the unit with hospital acquired C. difficile, a bacteria found in the bowel.
“Measures are in place to reduce the chance of further transmission,” said Dr. William Ciccotelli, Medical Director, Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiologist in a release.
“We are taking this situation very seriously and will work closely with Waterloo Region Public Health to resolve it as quickly as possible,” he said.
Numerous people died across the region and province in 2011 after a massive outbreak of the disease.
