Thousands of students in our region will be looking to update their immunization records over the next few weeks.
Final orders will be sent out in about a month – which is the last warning the Region of Waterloo Public Health will give students before suspensions are handed out.
Those orders are sent out three weeks before suspension day – which is the day students must have their records updated by.
That’s April 6th for elementary students and May 11th for secondary students.
Linda Black, manager of the Vaccine Preventable Disease Program tells 570 News that there are many ways parents can get their kids’ records up to date.
“We’re starting our drop-in clinics shortly…they’re typically not too busy during the time when we haven’t issued orders yet…once orders are issued the clinics do get a little bit busier but they go pretty quickly.”
Black says this school year, around 20,000 notices were sent out.
The province introduced three new vaccines into the immunization schedule in 2014.
A full list of required immunizations has been posted to The Region of Waterloo Public Health website.
