Ontario is investing $1-million from the Green Investment Fund into Kitchener’s Sustainability CoLab Network.
The investment was announced this morning and is part of the province’s new Climate Change Strategy.
The investment will help CoLab fund local environmental organizations in their network to help businesses undertake initiatives– such as introducing energy-efficiency measures and completing energy retrofits and building audits.
“Ontario is going to be investing $1 million towards to help businesses reduce their emissions, manage their energy costs, and try to stay competitive as we transition into a low-carbon economy. We’re partnering with Sustainability CoLab to fund local environmental groups in the CoLab Network, and this is being done in 8 communities across Ontario to try and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.” said Kitchener Centre MPP Daiene Vernile.
Sustainability CoLab is a local organization that helps businesses set and achieve targets to reduce their environmental impact while enhancing their competitive advantage and stimulating the low-carbon economy.
“Our goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions– if you look at Sustainabilty CoLab, they’re already demonstrating how successful they can be at it. Since 2009, they’ve helped reduce 28,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. We want to see this continue and we want to see this modelled elsewhere in the province.”
Vernille added that she’s very proud of our local organization for being selected for this investment.
“Our Environment Minister has told me that he’s very well aware of this Waterloo Region group and has noticed there best practices– and this is why our community was selected.”
