Double gold again for Laurier’s curling teams

As was the case in 2015, it’s double gold again for Laurier’s men’s and women’s curling teams at the OUA Championships.

Aaron Squires skipped his team to a 10-1 win over the University of Waterloo in Guelph on Monday afternoon, meaning the Warriors take silver.

“It’s definitely pretty special,” said Squires on his team’s victory. “It doesn’t happen very often but it was our goal coming in and we’re pretty proud that we were able to make it happen.”

The women captured gold by defeating Brock 6-4.

“You know, we did it last year and I’m so happy to be a part of the team and do it again this year. Proud of the boys, proud of our team for going undefeated, both of us; just a great week overall.” said skip Chelsea Brandwood.

All three local teams are now off to the national championships next month in B.C. The women’s team from the University of Guelph will also be there as the Gryphons won bronze at the provincials.
