Ayr community concerned after armed break-in

As Regional Police continue to investigate a break-in at an Ayr home, one resident is speaking out.
Preferring to remain anonymous, one woman tells 570 News that she and many others in the community are very scared and even had trouble sleeping last night.
“We are a huge community full of children and families, we’ve always had a safe community….we’re really concerned.”
She has been in touch with North Dumfries Mayor Sue Foxton who says there will be an increased police presence.
In an email Mayor Foxton writes:
We are all concerned and I have had several discussions with the police.
Presence in Ayr is increasing immediately. Tonight (Friday) the police are setup at the NDCC to meet and talk to individuals and families, to listen to their concerns and assist. I am so sorry for the distress this is causing everyone as are the police.
We as a community can help by being the eyes of the police and calling whenever we have a concern. The number is 519-570-3000.
That meeting is taking place from 6-10 pm.
Waterloo Regional Police will be providing residents with information on how to perform a Home Security Audit, and will also be canvassing the area door-to-door over the coming days.
The concerned mother has been living in Ayr for four years and says she is grateful for the mayor’s response but wants to know what the action plan is.
“The entire community, I would say, is just worried and concerned and definitely no town or family should have to go through something like this, but historically Ayr has been a really safe town so this is a surprise but we also want to know, what’s going to be done about this.”
Police say this is the fourth Break and Enter in the area since December 18, 2015.
The suspect involved in Thursday’s break-in is described as white man, 16 to 20 years old, 6′ with a thin build.
He was dressed almost entirely in black, including a black ski mask, but also had on a blue parka and was carrying two back packs.
